Customize Result detail panel

Postby lordjw » 24 Jul 2015, 10:23

Hi Everyone,

I just tried this program this morning, but unfortunately there is one missing option.

The program is fine, it can easily connect to our AIX server using SSH, check our logs, the only huge problem is that when the monitoring find a result to certain keyword, I need to see few more line after/before this keyword.

It's only showing 1 line, we could add some extra line after the keyword, it would be perfect.

Thanks,

Regards,

Cédric

Hello Cédric,

It's great that Retrospective works fine on your AIX server.

Providing additional context viewer for search/monitor results is on our backlog but it is not yet certain when it will be implemented.

However you can try to use the following functionality to see some lines before/after given line:
1. Let's assume that you are searching your log file for given keyword and you've found one matching line: http://www.imageupload.co.uk/image/ZxXT
2. Now you can select this line and, with the use of context menu, ask to search for all entries starting 10 seconds before and 10 seconds after this line: http://www.imageupload.co.uk/image/ZxXA
3. Then you have nice context of the line that was initially matched: http://www.imageupload.co.uk/image/ZxXR

Let me know if this was helpful to you. If not, then please provide me with some more insight into the functionality that you would expect. Would you like to see a few more lines after/before each matching log entry? Would you like to see these lines in Result Table or rather separately e.g. by selecting given matching entry and choosing some option from the context menu?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Marek
