Regex support for the search in Retrospective [DONE]

Postby markus » 16 Aug 2013, 09:44

We received a customer support feedback, that the support for regular expressions in the search would be highly desirable:

Subject: Regular Expression
Choose type: Information
--Information--
Message: Is there a way to do a regex search within the log
messages. I just found starts-, endwith and contains. But
entering any regex did not work.

Hi Johannes,

Thank you for your email.
Yes, you are right that regex currently does not work as a search argument in Retrospective.
We should be more clear about that in the documentation.

Our primary target was to offer a simple search for users that do not regularly and in-depth use regular expressions.
However, we have the support for regex planned for a future release.

If you allow it, I would like to post your question into our forum. (viewforum.php?f=15 )
Also other people have asked for regex support, and we could use it to gather feedback about the topic.
Please send me a short email if that would be ok for you. If I don't hear anything from you, I will keep your question private.

Best Regards,
Markus

Hi Retrospective Team,

Since this is a old thread I'm not too hopeful but I was wondering if there is an update on if Regular Expressions will be supported? Without it Retrospective won't be a viable option for my team. We really need the ability to do (\d{4}) searches since we're going through log files looking for strings of numbers. Thanks

Hi Gary,

We've just released Retrospective version 3.4.0 and unfortunately we don't support regex search criteria yet. For the next release we're going to add a few new types of search criteria and regex capability will be one of them.

Hi Gary,

We've just release Retrospective version 3.5.0 that includes support for regular expressions in all its strength. It’s worth mentioning that when searching remote files, regex is completely evaluated on the remote server ensuring the best performance possible.

In addition to regex, we now also provide support for simple wildcards: Question mark '?' representing any single character and star '*' representing any number of characters.

Urs
